What To Wear To The Bar
Whenever you plan on enjoying a trip to your local bar, one of the most important things that you have to do is dress the right way. It still amazes me that so many men think about wearing a suit or some kind of specifically chosen set of clothes, thinking it will help their chances with the women there.
While a suit is definitely overdressing, it may surprise you to know that there is such a thing as underdressing as well. Figuring out what to wear to the bar involves getting to know the location and understanding the right balance for your ideal attire.
Almost all bars are different when it comes to determining a dress code, because of how many different crowds can frequent those bars. Figuring out what to wear to a bar can be as easy as figuring out where you want to hang out in the bar. Dress appropriately for your venue by keeping some of these general rules in mind. Remember that no matter what, your comfort should always come first, but, just like with drinking, everything is best in moderation. 😉
Bars can have a nice, relaxed atmosphere, but they are still more formal than you may think. You can visit, meet a few girls, grab a drink and maybe meet some new people in a relatively laid back atmosphere. It is not as fast paced as a club, but that is still no reason for you to dress lazily. Put some thought into your clothes.
Wear a nice button down shirt. While a lot of guys can look comfortable in a tee shirt at the bar, you will want to set yourself apart from the usual crowd. A comfortable shirt that you can wear untucked and casual can add a lot of distinction and style to your wardrobe. Pick any color that you want, but avoid anything too bright and gaudy.
Your shoe options are up to you. You can wear something casual or formal based entirely on how you want to complete your wardrobe. Either choice is completely acceptable and will not attract any weird looks.
However, casual does not mean that you can wear runners. Canvas shoes can be a good option to stay stylish and low key, while leather shoes can be ideal if you want to look slightly more dressed up.
Pants and Accessories
Jeans are your best best when it comes to pants. Just about any color, between dark blue and black, will be right for the bar. Slacks are usually too formal, and lighter jeans are usually a daytime item. No matter what, however, avoid wearing a hat inside. It is always considered to be bad manners, and while some type of hat may be acceptable at a club, it is never okay in a bar.
The same applies for sunglasses as well. The key is to look functional and attractive, while still comfortable and approachable. A hat and sunglasses makes the latter two very difficult, especially among certain crowds at popular bars. If you are looking for an accessory, try a nice watch. For $100, you an get something that is stylish and attractive in any setting.
